On the Property

  • Swimming and Boating:

Our private access to the lake is a pretty five minute walk on our property through the open hayfield across the street. The land is in conservation and so undeveloped. We put a float out about 30 ft from the shore. There is also a dock for sunning.

We have two kayaks and a canoe at the lake for use by our guests. If you look at the map of the area, you'll see that the pond connects to the north to Round Pond, which makes for a great, not-too-difficult day trip; depending on your effort and experience and how many detours you wish to make, it can be done in as little as two hours. To the south, it goes all the way out to the salt water, terminating at the Saint George "River". If you want to kayak south you would want someone to pick you up (at Rt 90, or further south in Thomaston at the docks). It's a beautiful day long trip on a largely inaccessible water way. The wild life is superb (loons, night herons, kingfishers, osprey).

Maine Sport in Camden also does tours in various bodies of water in the area.

  • Fishing You can fish from our boats, the float, or for probably the best fishing, by the bridge in Ayer Park, just .5 miles on foot from the house. You can also canoe or kayak there. Seven Tree Pond, as it is called, is stocked with trout and they love hanging out under the bridge.

We don't provide fishing gear, but Johnson's Sporting Goods in Rockland does, as well as other local merchants. You can get a fishing license in the Union Town Office.

  • Apple and berry picking (in season). The property includes 2 organic orchards that are maintained by a local farmer; they sell the apples at Beth's Market, and we ask that you pick only what you can eat while at the house.

  • Putting green (artificial turf). Clubs and balls provided. It's "all terrain" at times, but no cart needed!

  • Walk the extensive trails on our 80 acres. Pictures of the property here, here, and here.
